The following may apply for the Master's Degree:
a) People who hold a B.A. or equivalent degree;
b) People who hold a foreign academic degree awarded after a 1st study cycle organized according to the Bologna Process by a member state of that process;
c) People who hold a foreign academic degree acknowledged as a degree satisfying the objectives of the graduate degree by the due body;
d) People who have a school, scientific or professional curriculum acknowledged by the due body of ULHT certifying the capacity to obtain this study cycle.

The School of Communication, Art and Information Technologies of the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias offers a Master¿s Degree in Alternative Communication and Assistive Technologies, transversal and substantiated in the area of the senses and cognition; social and communication; autonomy, independence and interaction of people with various types of disability, including, in the course curriculum, training in: Portuguese Sign Language;
Sign Language Application to the various areas of knowledge;
Sign Language and Alternative Writing on the palm of the hand;
Braille applied to Portuguese and other languages, as well as to different scientific orthographies;
Neurogenic Pathologies of Communication and Augmentative/Alternative Communication in the various areas of deficiency, namely blindness, deafness, deaf-blindness and syndromes inhibiting the communication systems that prevent the use of oral language;
Promotion and guidance of the adequacy of services and public and private equipment to those deprived of speech, or the ability to read or write.
Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired
Studying and deepening the complex communication problems for people with sensorial, cognitive, and motor impairment, or with neurogenic pathologies of communication, and others, as well as of those exceptionally gifted, and developing the adequate scientific research to ensure that new goals and approaches are made viable in augmentative and alternative communication, and assistive technologies for the social-communicational and interaction difficulties or impairments;
Developing a new paradigm of handicaps, offering an up to date conceptualisation of fundaments, organisation and interpretation of the phenomena of communicational conditioners or disadvantages, regarding nature, causes, individual/group/social experimentation, based on structuring and developing different responses on a theoretic/empiric and methodological level;
Resizing, through crucial analysis/interpretations and transversal interventions, the disadvantages or conditioners of communication and transform them in issues to be solved in a lucid process, within society, in the framework of a more adequate comprehension, and the subsequent inter-comprehension of political, social, scientific, technological, practical, and personal responses;
Investigating and promoting the fulfilment of individual and collective conscience levels that ensure, under the primacy of human and social value of the individual and the community, the performance and disclosure of the contexts, and organisations¿ knowledge and know-how centres adequate to the communicational complexity of individuals with specific deficit or superavit in communication and social interaction;
Researching, evaluating and giving scientific credibility to the advantages of technifying the augmentative and alternative communication and communication models, specific for access to the several speeches;
Researching and defining methods and techniques for the implementation and generalisation of a communication/inclusive culture concept, from an ecological point of view of equal opportunities regarding employment and quality of life;
Investigate, build and/or endeavour the institution and application of strategies and objectives to suppress the serious national gaps (maybe as an extent, also in the Portuguese speaking countries and in Europe) in what concerns the training of teachers and technicians specialised in the various types of communication within the framework of social-communicational difficulties and the specific difficulties of interaction between citizens, through solid parameterisation aiming for a specialised communicational didactics based on interpersonal communication, with no barriers, with laboratory and experimental subjects under the responsibility of specialised teachers/researches whose competence is acknowledged on a scientific, technological and pedagogical level.
Specialisation and post-graduation programs, including 3rd cycle programs referring to PhD studies.
Specialised/Educational Support teachers with pedagogic qualification in augmentative and alternative communicational specificities and the adequate adaptative technologies, on a pre-school, elementary school, high school, and higher education/university level, in several disability types.
Researchers and Teachers in Communication and Educational Science; Certified Professional Training Agents.
Dully accredited Professionals/Technicians in the field of the communicational specificities in reference to the performance of clinical functions, health centres, hospitals, schools in general (with regular/inclusive or special teaching); in several institutions, associations of individuals with disability, larger national and foreign companies, but also in smaller and medium sized companies, institutions whose activity has been acquiring increasingly more conscience of the real importance of communication valences, in its widest meaning, either for the support and sustainability of their strategies and fulfilment of goals, or for the management of special needs of social-professional inclusion, quality of life and implicit delicate communicational relations, and even cooperation/conflict in the economic and institutional space, both at the national and European/Portuguese speaking levels.
Human Resources Directors of Public, Central and Local Administration, Communication and Institutional Image, Organisations and Companies; Commercial and Marketing Directors for institutions, organisations and companies, press consultancy offices, central and local public administration image and communication, or organisations with communitarian relevance (associations, foundations, sports clubs, nongovernmental organisations, among others); Responsible for public relations agencies; Communication and Image consultants. From this set of pressing training/specialisation needs, as long as acquired and adequately applied, we await very positive results in the near future in what concerns opportunity for younger professionals and other individuals interested in promoting, researching, and developing life in "inclusive communication and culture", with certified information in augmentative and alternative communication and special adaptative technologies.
