Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired

A degree in Engineering Science - Industrial Engineering aims to develop the competence of students to the profession of engineer in areas of industrial and management processes, including the ability to analyze problems and design engineering solutions in areas of industrial activity . The skills developed include: ability to apply knowledge and understanding to support a professional approach to work in the area of vocational student; capacity analysis and needs assessment in industrial environments, ability to work and process information, including nature technique. These basic skills must be complemented by the following general responsibilities discrimination.Development of the student¿s ability to assess and decide in order to acquire: Ability to solve problems within the Major¿s area by building and supporting their own arguments; ability to collect, select and interpret relevant information, particularly in the respective study field that ensure the justification of presented solutions and appreciations made, including in the analysis of scientific, social, and ethical aspects. Development of communication skills that ensure the conveyance of information, ideas, problems and solutions to experts and non-experts. Development of the learning skills that enable learning throughout life with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Objectives

    Objectives

To train individuals in the ability to use the basic principles of management, namely production management, modelation and simulation of problems, applied to the industrial process. Training within the extended scope of Mechanical Technology and production processes, as well as machine parts, that enable a solid and wide view on the production methods and technologies. To provide basic training in mechanical, electromechanical and hydraulic components, industrial and robotic automation that enables an integrated view on the integrated production systems. Knowledge of materials and their physical and mechanical characteristics. Ability to apply knowledge to the resolution of problems in a practical way. General knowledge and use of programming languages and computational tools in the resolution of engineering and management problems, namely to support modelation, simulation and decision-making.

  • Observations

    Observations

The development of an active policy of integration of vocational students, is one of the objectives of this course. Thus, besides the different protocols of collaboration to promote the integration of our students in training periods and in-service training in different public and private entities working in the sector in Portugal, this cycle study develops ad hoc arrangements with other institutions to ensure the effective integration of all its students or graduates. Another pertinent observation on this section concerns the definition of core areas of this training course. Thus, it is essential to note that by limiting the platform is not possible to indicate which are also core areas of specialized training in this course of study areas Classificação Nacional 481, 349 and 521. This reflects the nature of broadband in education in engineering sciences from the course throughout the curriculum points to specialization in different fieldsof management and engineering of industrial processes.
