  • Objectives

    Objectives

The BA Communication Design degree at the Lusófona University aims to train creative and technical designers in the sectors of communication, graphic arts, industrial, equipment, space and environments. The aim is the maximum valorization and development of the students' conceptual, creative and technical skills, in order to satisfy market demands, as well as to suggest more coherent alternatives to existing problems. We have created, thus, a pedagogy that aims to develop students¿ ability to respond to design problems, relating creative thinking with logical analysis, and reporting to the framework required by today's world, respect for the environment and the human dimension (in its various forms), in the search for a more integrative and habitable world for all, using the new technologies and materials available. It is a design department that critically challenges a discipline in profound transitions, exploring a variety of pedagogical models. Working as a continuous workshop with a network of leading professionals, researchers and educators, this BA aims to expand the design discipline in collaboration with our research centre, as well as local and international partners.

Most of the project classes take place here, and it is also the space where parallel programs take place, including those organized by students, such as film and reading sessions.
  • Research

    Research

The Center for Other Worlds (COW) is an interdisciplinary research centre for design and art, based at Lusófona University. It focuses on the development of perspectives that are not dominant nor imposed by the design discipline¿through criticism, speculation and collaboration with various disciplines such as curating, architecture, visual arts, ecology and political theory¿having in design an unifying element but rejecting hierarchies between them. The centre¿s name makes a reference to the concept of otherness, thereby aiming at challenging universal visions of design and art. The centre¿s core mission is therefore inscribed in its name.
