Resume

Ana Lima is an assistant professor at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Lusofona University, Lisbon, as well as a member of the Research Unit Linking Landscape, Environment, Agriculture and Food (LEAF) at the Higher Institute of Agronomy (ISA), University of Lisbon. She completed her PhD degree in 2010 and later developed her Postdoc in the area of food anticancer bioactivities at ISA, where from 2015 to 2018 she shared the coordination of the Plants for Health and Disease group in ISA. From 2019 to 2021 she was the senior coordinator of the Science research department at a non-profit national institution. Currently she is part of the research committee at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,  Lusófona University. Her expertise resides mainly on proteomics and metabolomics, with a particular focus on bioactive compounds from food and plants for health, mainly focusing on inflammation and cancer preventive/ curative diets and natural alternatives to antibiotics and food disinfectants. She also works in the area of nutraceutical incorporation in functional foods and their impact in digestion and the gut microbiota. She has developed solid protocols for isolating and testing bioactive compounds in foods, mainly proteins/peptides, as well as an array of protocols for anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities using in vitro and in vivo tests. She has broad experience in cell culture and anticancer and anti-proliferation assays as well and on digestion models. She has participated in 15 projects both national and European and supervised 4, one of which FCT-funded.  She has supervised 4 PhD students, 1 post-doc, 12 MSC  and dozens of undergraduate students. She has 47 peer-reviewed publications, including book chapters and scientific papers, and has co- edited a book. She has received the Born from Knowledge Award from Food Nutrition in 2018 and holds already 3 international patents from her discoveries.
