Truths, Lies and Videogames

Abstract

Os videojogos podem ser integrados na aprendizagem de diversas formas: desde os videojogos comerciais aos desenvolvidos à medida com fins educativos (jogos sérios) e até à sua criação pelos alunos, permitindo o desenvolvimento de múltiplas literacias.  Por outro lado, existem estudos que falam sobre os "efeitos" negativos dos videojogos  e em particular na adição e comportamento violento. Nesta comunicação, a audiência será convidada a participar no confronto destas duas perspectivas: os videojogos como empoderadores ou como media panic.

Conceição Costa (DEISI / CICANT / ULHT)

Conceição Costa is a PhD in Communication Sciences - Media Studies from FCSH-Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She holds a Master of Arts in Business Communication and Public Relations from the European University - equivalence to the Master degree in Multimedia Communication (ULHT) and a Certified Usability Analyst from Human Factors International (USA). She is an Associate Professor and Researcher at the School of Communication Studies, Art and Information Technologies of Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (UHLT) in Lisbon, Portugal. She is a lecturer at Bachelor degrees, Master degrees and Doctoral degrees at ECATI, teaching curricular units related with Communication and Technology namely: Human-Computer Interaction (Informatics Engineering bachelor degree); Scripting for Virtual Environments (Videogames bachelor degree); Media and Education in the Master of Teaching Visual Arts for the 3rd cycle of Basic and Secondary School; Marketing and Advertising (Cinema, Video and Mulimedia Communication bachelor degree); Marketing in Information and Communication Technologies (MEISI - Master in Informatics Engineering and Information Sciences); Seminar of Communication and Technology (PhD in Communication Sciences) and Interaction Design (NEMPS - Novos Media e Sistemas Ubíquos. She has been a member of the COST Action ISO906 (2010-2014) and has been involved in several European publications about media literacy and games. She was the Principal Investigator of GamiLearning project (UTAP-ICDT/IVC-ESCT/0020/2014) funded by FCT under UT Austin | Portugal Programme. Currently she is the Principal Investigator of GBL4deaf - Videojogos Educativos Acessíveis a Surdos (LISBOA-01-0145-FEDER-032022) funded by FCT and LISBOA2020 and the Coordinator of MILT-Media Literacy for Living Together funded by European Commission
