ULusófona and Rede de Bibliotecas Escolares initiative promotes ethical reflection among students
17.04.24 - 16h24The explosion of digital connectivity has brought with it a vast sea of online interactions, but also complex challenges such as the spread of fake news and hate speech. In this context, the Debaqi project was created to nurture healthy online dialogues based on cordiality and mutual respect.
Developed by the Centre for Research in Applied Communications and New Technologies (CICANT) at Lusófona University, under the leadership of Prof. Dr Manuel Pita, in collaboration with the School Libraries Network - RBE, Debaqi offers a secure platform for discussions between secondary school students.
"The project is not just a technological tool, it is an educational environment that aims to train young people to navigate the digital world critically and ethically," emphasised Prof. Dr. Manuel Pita, adding that by providing a structured space for constructive and reflective debates, the essential skills of learners to face contemporary challenges of online communication are strengthened.
In addition, Debaqi helps to combat cyberbullying and other forms of harmful speech. Secondary schools across the country are invited to take part, allowing students from different backgrounds and perspectives to join the dialogue.
Due to be launched next school year, Debaqi promises to be a catalyst for positive transformation in online school communities.
