It is intended to familiarize students with the basic concepts of thought, language and statistical techniques. Students should be able to recognize the usefulness and wide application of these methodologies to various contexts, particularly in their areas of study. It is intended that students develop data analysis capabilities as well as acquire fundamental knowledge of probability theory and random variables. Students are expected to develop their thinking skills, helping them to approach and solve real problems in their area of study or in alternative contexts.
Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired
- Understand the concepts of Descriptive Statistics and Inductive Statistics, identify them and apply them in practical cases. -To know how to obtain, classify and analyze samples and how to do the respective statistical treatment. -Interiorize the concepts of algebra of events. -Know the various concepts of probability and learn how to determine the probability of events. - Identify the types of random variables appropriately and study them according to their type.
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The classes are theoretical-practical, presenting the theoretical concepts and then complemented with practical examples. For each topic is presented a set of exercises of application of the theoretical concepts to concrete problems, proceeding to follow the resolution of the same and presenting the final resolution. The evaluation is carried out on a continuous assessment basis or by final examination. Continuous assessment includes two tests with equal weight, totaling 70% of the final grade, two counts with equal weighting, totaling 20% of the final grade, with the remaining result of the commitment and participation shown during the semester. A student in the Normal regime is only able to be evaluated in EFF if he / she is present in at least 75% of the total class. Students in the Worker-Student regime have the same evaluation tools except for the compulsory presence in class.
