Prerequisites and co-requisites
Mechanical properties of materials. Classification of processes. Plastic forming processes (description, equipment, materials, parameters and parts calculation). Forging (open and closed matrix, hot and cold). Extrusion (direct and reverse, hot and cold). Lamination (hot and cold). Sheet metal bending. Calendering. Stamping and Hydroforming. Conformation processes. Rapid prototyping, Pulverometallurgy (production of powders, mixing and compacting, sintering, finishing). Cutting technological processes. Cutting by break-in (machine tools, force calculation, work and power, punches, sloping cut). Cutting by cutting (machine tools, CNC cutting, forces and powers of cutting, orthogonal cut). Laser cutting, water jet, electro-erosion.
Provide the student with fundamental concepts about mechanical properties. To familiarize the students with the technological processes for the processing of materials that were not addressed in the UC of Mechanical Technology I in the scope of the manufacture of tools, machinery organs and mechanical equipment. Know cutting edge emerging technologies.
Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired
The student must take cognizance of the principle of operation of the main technologies of plastic forming and cutting acquiring aptitude for the calculation and sizing of equipment and industrial technology as well as manufacturing of mechanical components. The alundo must also take knowledge of the working principle of the technologies of metallurgy and rapid prototyping
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Theoretical and theoretical-practical classes. Study visits to workshops and industries. Continuous evaluation: - two frequencies with the minimum classification in each of 9,5 in 20 values; - work and oral presentation on emerging state-of-the-art technology (25% final grade); - attendance (10% Final grade). Assessment by examination: Final exam. Approval with a grade of 9.5 or higher.
