1. Introduction to the study of motivation: definition and evolution of the concept. 1.2Theories of motivation: historical approach 1.3 Contemporary approaches of Motivation 2. Motivation and Emotion 3 Introduction to the study of Emotions 3.1Historical contextualization 3.2The concept of emotion 3.3Discrete and dimensional approaches 3.4 Primary and secondary emotions 4 The multidimensionality of emotional response (subjective, physiological and behavioral) 5 Theoretical models of the emotional process. James-Lange theory. Theory of Cannon-Bard. Cognitive theories. Evolutionary theories. 6. The relationship between attention and emotion. 7. Relation between memory and emotional processing 8. The study of Emotions 8.1Quantification of emotional response 8.2Paradigms and experimental manipulations 8.3 Affective image databases 9. Maladaptive Emotions: Phobias
Objectives
To promote a solid training basis, based on theoretical, technical and methodological foundations of Emotion and Motivation. It is also intended that students can acquire skills for the critical analysis of the various theories related to emotions and motivation, as well as using the theoretical framework to analyze problems of daily life in several contexts; recognize different types and functions of emotions and its multidimensional expression (biological, psychological and social), the main motivational variables and the relationship between motivation and emotions, as well as the relationship between emotion and cognition. It is also intended that students can learn how the main ways to measure emotions
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Lectures rely on expositive and demonstrative methods. Laboratory-oriented classes are focused on demonstrations of emotional elicitation paradigms, with recording and quantification of emotional response, tutorials and self-monitoring. Continuous evaluation in this course consists of: 1) A written test without consultation (60%) 2) Conducting an empirical group work and writing and formatting a research paper in APA style (25%) 3) Oral presentation, whose assessment will distinguish individual contributions (15%) As a final grade, the student must obtain a minimum grade of 10 points. (10/20). If not, the student will be evaluated in the Final Examination mode. Final Examination mode. - written exam (100%) is based on lecture¿s content and laboratory practice. This year, students are exempt from the exam fee.
