Physiology I

Presentation

The UC studies the multiple mechanical, physical and biochemical functions in living beings. In short, physiology studies the functioning of the organism and aims to provide students with basic knowledge and the different systems are approached independently but always integrating the previously acquired knowledge.

Students should understand the normal functioning of organisms and how their disturbances cause changes in the animal's life.

Objectives

  1. Know the function and regulation of the different organ systems.
  2. Understand the physiologic function of each system and how they interplay in the body as a whole.
  3. Know the physiologic profiles in the different veterinary species.
  4. Distinguish between physiologic and pathologic profiles in the different veterinary species. Develop the understanding of the disease pathophysiology.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

Theoretical: trough audiovisual media.

Practical and theoretical-practical: in the laboratory or through audiovisual media.

A - Theoretical component 50%:

Through 2 exams (50% + 50%, questions such as: T/F, multiple choice, short answer and long-answer), with a minimum of 9.5 values.

B - Practical component 50%:

Evaluation of the capacity for technical achievement, with a minimum of 9.5 values and a minimum assistance of 2/3 of practical classes.

  1. 20% Group work proposed by the teachers.
  2. 10% Attendance, interest, behaviour
    • Continuous evaluation:
  3. 70% Written exams.

Final exam evaluation: Students not obtaining approval by continuous evaluation may be evaluated through a final exam. It consists of 50% of the theoretical component + 50% of the practical component. Minimum grade of 9.5 values.
