Interview with Alice Vieira
Alice Vieira is a journalist and a writer. Born in 1943, she graduated in German Philology from Faculdade de Letras de Lisboa, but at 18 chose journalism as a profession. She started in Diário de Lisboa and went through several newspapers, including Diário de Notícias, where she remained until 1990, when she went to work as a free-lancer.
In 1979 she published her first young adult novel ¿ Rosa, Minha Irmã Rosa ¿ which that year won the "Literature Award for The International Year of the Child". Since then, she regularly publishes youth¿s novels, but also adult literature, poetry, theater, collections of traditional stories and children's books. Member of the board of the Portuguese Authors Society, her talent has been recognized several times, as in 1984, with the Grand Gulbenkian Prize for lifetime achievement, and in 2000, with the Prix Octogone to the French edition of Os Olhos de Ana Marta.
