Syllabus
Syllabus
- bioclimatic architecture
- Bioclimatic architecture concept. Solar orientation, radiation and solar gains. Thermal Inertia and Thermal Conductivity
- natural ventilation
- Renovation of indoor air at zero cost. Passive, geothermal and evaporative heating and cooling and other techniques.
- passive solar strategies
- Passive solar strategies in Portugal and in the African Portuguese-speaking space. The temperate and tropical climate and the respective passive climatization strategies
- Constructive and insulating materials for the surroundings in Portugal and climates in Africa.
- the influence of vernacula architecture
- Bioclimatic architecture, a new architecture derived from the vernacular, the new concepts of energy saving, better comfort, and new technologies. The new surroundings with new values and new construction and isolation concepts.
- Environmental and energy certification
- as a quality control factor for design and construction.

Objectives
Objectives
- Evaluate and know how to predict and introduce in an Architectural and Urban Planning Project the qualities necessary for a Project and the options taken in it to be included in sustainable concepts for a good performance
- Master bioclimatic and zero carbon strategies such as natural lighting, gains from solar radiation, shading, natural ventilation, insulation versus thermal mass and microclimate control of the surroundings, through vegetation and others, cooling and heating.
- Design the right solution and know how to choose the specific materials for a building based on the principles of sustainable design whose limit will be a zero carbon house
-
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
- Theoretical classes with powerpoint slide projection;
- Detailed class work related to the subject and fundamental to Bioclimatic
- Presentation of individual research papers up to a maximum of 6 sheets of A4 paper on the subjects of the Discipline - Bioclimatic / zero carbon / written test on the given subject
The evaluation will be continuous and the approval in the course implies the presence of the student in 75% of the classes taught. The works to be presented will be classified from zero to 20 values and the final grade will be the average of the works presented:
1st Work - Presentation of individual research works, on the subjects of the Discipline - Critical analysis of a building
2nd Work - Presentation of the study / project - articulation with the Project UC
