Syllabus
Conservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings:
- Knowledge of national and international standards;
- Project on Maintenance, Conservation, Rehabilitation and Presentation of historic buildings.
- Evaluation of values attributed to the historic buildings. Credible sources of information and authentic technical documentation;
- Management of the architectural heritage;
- Causes of decay and procedures to repair historic buildings: foundations, facades, roofs, floors and mechanical systems;
- Methodology of inspections and reports to record the visible defects on historic buildings and to justify the procedures to repair;
Project of Conservation (different types of interventions such as environmental control, maintenance, repair, restoration, renovation and rehabilitation).

Objectives
- Learn the methodologies of the architectural conservation (including maintenance, repair, rehabilitation and the reuse of historic buildings with the requirements of safety and comfort);
- Learn the methodology of inspections and reports to record the visible defects on historic buildings;
- Learn the basic rules to carry out structural, thermal and acoustic improvements, in compliance with the main features of the historic buildings;
- Learn the methodology of the Project of Rehabilitation of historic buildings.

Students are encouraged to carry out the necessary research to study an old building, in its construction aspects, materials and finishes, analysis of pathologies, identification of cultural values in order to propose the necessary repairs.
