After the broad acquisitions, in the scope of history and theory of architecture, the city and art, carried out during the 1st cycle, the objective of this course is to consolidate particular knowledge about the Portuguese reality in the context of European and the way he adapted it to the Portuguese cultural and socio-economic reality. Thus, it seeks to contribute to a reflection on the theoretical and practical production of the Portuguese architectural world, from its origins to the 18th century, understanding its genesis and development, as well as the cultural constraints that frame it. Adequate knowledge of the PAH discipline contributes to a greater maturity in the reflection on the history of production and critical awareness of this specific moment in history, with inevitable repercussions on current practice and architectural discourse.

Objectives
Objectives
After the wide-ranging acquisitions, within the scope of history and theory of architecture, the city and art, made during the 1st cycle, the objective of this course is to consolidate particular knowledge about the Portuguese reality with regard to architectural production respect, never losing sight of its particular socio-political context and its links, contamination and transnational complicity. Thus, we seek to contribute to a reflection on the theoretical and practical production of the Portuguese architectural world, from its origins to the 18th century, understanding its genesis and development, as well as the cultural conditions that frame it. Adequate knowledge of the discipline contributes to greater maturity in the reflection on the history of production and critical awareness of this specific moment in history, with inevitable repercussions in practice and in architectural discourse today.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
1- Individual research work: Each student will try to identify the intrinsic characteristics of Portuguese architecture, in comparison with that of neighboring Spain. For this, several pairs of equivalent architectural examples from both countries will be selected and each student must present in writing the fundamental differences between them. The work is presented as an archive file (30%). 2- Frequency (60%). 3- Attendance, interest and participation (10%)
