Class Philosophy of Communication

  • Presentation

    Presentation

Philosophy of Communiation is a theoretical subject that aims to determine what are media and mediation, promoting skills with which students can understand the phenomenon of communication as something founded on technical devices. This CU is central to the functioning of the course, because it poses questions that other practical disciplines addressed empirically

  • Objectives

    Objectives

This CU aims to reflect on the importance of mediations for the formation of an image of man and how he builds a world-picture, because they are the ones that prescribe the structure of this ¿representation¿. In this sense, we will try to determine what communication means, we will try to understand the scope of this question in history and in the understanding that human beings make of themselves and of the world. This implies an approach that analysis communication as a formative process, a process of exchange of thought that takes place through a medium. This exchange will necessarily make it possible to inquire the legitimacy of building world-pictures and, therefore, redirect the attention to transmission devices that are also mechanisms of support of these representations.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

As a theoretical subject, objectives and competences, are better suited into master classes as the most relevant methodology. Formulating problems, define their limits and exposition are elements that will be of regular use. Hermeneutics and heuristics will also be recurrent methods. Verification and monitoring of learned skills will be done via public discussion of arguments and problems raised in site as exercises. The evaluation has three moments, one qualitative and two quantitative. Quantitative: students' class attendance and their participation in loco; Qualitative: public oral presentation and discussion of a problem in Syllabus. Final essay with at least 3500 words and its public discussion. Assessment weight: class presentation: 40%; essay: 60%.
