    The UC Principles of Photographic Image is part of the set of options that allow students to broaden their knowledge in the area of Image and Media Arts, contributing to increase technical knowledge through learning a set of specific techniques of Photography, increase their knowledge and creative abilities through learning contemporary artistic discourses of photographic practice and apply this knowledge in the development of a moving image project, improving thinking skills, creation and technical execution.

    1. Contemporary Photographic Discourses
    
        the documentary drive
        Staged Photography.
        Discourse-Image Relations
        Contemporary Authors and Practices
    
    2. Photographic Technique
    
        Image formation, technical variables: Shutter; Diaphragm; Focal distance; ISO; White balance;
        Use of capture variables in the creation of meaning in the photographic image.
    
    3. Definition of characters from the photographic heritage.
    4. Creation of visual identity for the project - lighting, environment, post-production.
    
     
  • Objectives

    Objectives

    At the end of the UC students should have acquired:
    
    a) Knowledge of the main authorial discourses developed by Contemporary Photography and its main interpreters.
    
    b) Understanding of the set of techniques and variables for obtaining photographic images and skills for their application in the context of project development.
    
    c) Understanding the capabilities of constructing discourse through the photographic image, applying notions of lighting, color, depth of field, shutter speed, focal length and framing in the compositional construction of an image with a specific objective within a project.
    
    d) Ability to decode and apply vernacular image codes to the construction of the photographic heritage of a character or a place.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Throughout the semester, students are exposed to a diverse set of methodologies:
    
    1. Inversion of the demonstrative logic of content presentation - summoning students to the first moments of presentation from an investigation, from which the syllabus to be taught is developed.
    
    2. Development of practical exercise and presentation of doubts.
    
    3 . Development of a fictional community through image sharing and characterization of characters through photographic heritage, using social image sharing tools and developing this set of community in a network outside the classroom
    
    4. Application of learning, in integration with the set of other subjects of the semester, for the definition of the narrative space to be developed in the 2nd semester.
