    Diplomacy and Foreign Policy is a curricular unit of the CPRI course taught in the 2nd semester of the 2nd year. It is integrated in the area of ¿¿international relations and its study proves to be very relevant for the knowledge of diplomatic activity and for its recognition as an instrument at the service of foreign policy.

    6. The Strategic Concept of National Defense.
    
    7. The historical development of diplomacy.
    
    8. The evolution of the Portuguese geo-strategic concept
    
    9. The colonial question at the end of the 19th century.: the Berlin Conference, the Pink Map and the English Ultimatum.
    
    10. Portuguese Foreign Policy during the First Republic.
    
    11. From the implementation of the Estado Novo to the revolutionary fracture of 1974.
    
    12. Diplomacy and Foreign Policy - new models and challenges.
    
    13. The Europeanization of Portuguese foreign policy.
    
    14, Portugal and the Iberian space. Analysis of Portugal's participation in international organizations - UN, NATO, EU and CPLP.
    
    15. The European crisis and the war in Ukraine - the return to Portuguese foreign policy with priority at sea.

    Objectives

    1.Define and distinguish between diplomacy and foreign policy. 2. Analyze, throughout the historical process, the main moments of Portuguese foreign policy.
    3. Identify and foresee new models and new challenges for diplomacy and foreign policy.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The methods to be used will be essentially expository and interrogative, taking into account the nature of the
    Subjects. The pedagogical techniques to be used will be: the exposition technique; ice-breaker technique;
    brainstorming technique; case study technique; group work technique and debate technique.
    For continuous assessment: Occurrences Sheet and Observation Sheet. Assessment Tests with
    qualitative and quantitative measurement.
    The curricular unit will have continuous assessment with frequency and participation analysis and 2 tests of
    assessment. The grade will be assigned according to the following parameters:
    Attendance and participation - 10%
    2 Assessment tests - 90% (45% each).
