Perspectives on the Future of Film Education in Europe
Innovation and Interdisciplinarity in European Film Education
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
Manuel José Damásio, coordinator of FilmEU - European University, published the article Perspectives on the Future of Film Education in Europe, focusing on the Samsara pedagogical model, implemented within the scope of FilmEU.
The article examines how technological, social, and institutional changes, virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and changes in audience behaviour are transforming both the cinematic medium and the methods used in film education.
It advocates for the need to shift from teaching about film to teaching through film, presenting FilmEU as a trans-European and interdisciplinary model for education in the creative industries. The Samsara model is introduced as a project-based approach that combines technical training with media literacy and critical thinking.
The article explores how initiatives such as FilmEU can contribute to the adaptation of film schools to the ongoing transformations in the cultural and creative industries.
