Presentation

This study programme envisions to train professionals, artists and researchers in the fields of media and
creativity in relation to technology and communicational practices, through a model of transdisciplinary
knowledge and a paradigm of multimedia creation; To discuss digital technologies in the optic of the artist,
entrepreneur and creative social scientist, as a new medium, new product and new anthropological
phenomenon, and propose ways to share multimedia, film, animation and performance, combining theoretical
and laboratorial approaches; to promote entrepreneurial responses that meet the demands of a digital society,
in accordance with the socio-economic and politico-cultural contexts; to Explore original patterns and methods
in the context of art, cultural intervention, education, entertainment and creative industries; to insert in the
Portuguese educational landscape an educational and training program in areas that have so far been excluded
from the academic national domain.

Entrance Conditions

Constitute the specific conditions of entry submission document certifying qualifications and personal
motivations for the development of R & D in the fields of media arts. According to art. 30 of Legislative Decree
74/2006: Holders of master's degree or legal equivalent; Holders of bachelor's degree, possession of an
academic or scientific material that is recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by
the Scientific statutorily competent university where they intend to be admitted c) holders of an academic,
scientific or professional curriculum recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle

Have completed a total of 180 ECTS

Objectives

To understand the complex relationship between art and communication and to identify the role of digital
technologies in the transformation of contemporary experience; to Explore theoretical tools, techniques and
aesthetics in the polymorphous field of digital creativity (educational, communicational, artistic); to Develop a
theoretical and practical approach able to explore the aesthetic properties of visual and performative
environments, multimedia social networks and ubiquitous devices, according to the surrounding socioeconomic
and politico-cultural; Mobilizing digital technologies as: mediation / materials with aesthetic potential;
applications / services to various utilities; phenomena / events with social significance; Perform and direct
experimental projects on digital platforms, renewing the aesthetic standards of discourse and narrative
multimedia creation; to reflect on an artistic domain with more than 20 years of local history, but still
expressionless academic.

Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired

- Differentiate the creative processes of research methods in art.
- Distinguish between internal processes and inherent techniques of individual artist's modus operandi to each
works.
- Acquire the critical distance necessary to the analysis of the work in order to avoid the glare intrinsic to each
media.
- Knowing various research methodologies in art, accompanying artistic practice and research conducted by
artistic practice and reflective practice
- Understand that a dissertation theoretical and practical dimension, referring to the artwork requires working
methods interdependent: one of creation of the work, from idea to its realization by going to your presentation,
another documentation and archiving of the creative process; yet another completely theoretical testifies this
work created a priori.
- Understanding the times that each stage needs, a timetable for a realistic and a good outcome of the work
