EP94 - Gender, Politics and Inequality with Manti Janella
The latest episode of the podcast *Direta Sem Café* discussed the issue of gender representation, featuring Manti Janella, who analysed both the progress made and the challenges still present in politics.
It was highlighted that the presence of women in decision-making spaces contributes to the recognition of issues such as gender equality, domestic violence, childhood, and social rights, enabling concrete changes in favour of women and children. The guest also noted that women in positions of responsibility tend to demonstrate a strong sense of commitment.
During the conversation, the main obstacles faced by women were also addressed, such as education based on models of submission, lack of recognition, harassment, and difficulty being heard in political contexts. Manti Janella shared her personal experience as a student, recalling the difficulties she faced as the first woman to hold a position of responsibility in her class during her degree in Political Science and International Relations at Lusófona University - Lisbon University Centre.
The guest further emphasised the importance of resilience, arguing that in the face of obstacles it is necessary to “build bridges” and not give up on one’s goals. Her final message encouraged women to invest in education, confidence, and perseverance, stressing that public space should be built by both men and women in equality.
