This CU is part of the 2nd cycle of Physical Education Teaching in Basic and Secondary Education, scientific area Training Teachers and Trainers in Technological areas. It aims to provide up-to-date basic knowledge and its reflection on the main issues of Research in Physical Education. Additionally, it is intended that students recognize the pertinence of this knowledge and reflections for the practical issues of their professional future.

Syllabus
1. Basic assumptions of scientific research o Nature and characteristics of scientific research. 2. Fundamentals of research in Physical Education and Sport o General principles of research applied to physical education teaching. 3. Qualitative research paradigms o Case study, action research and ethnography. 4. Qualitative methods and techniques o Collection and analysis of qualitative data. 5. Type of quantitative studies o Experimental, quasi-experimental and observational studies. 6. Data analysis in quantitative studies o Sample size, statistical tests, and significance level. 7. Critical analysis of scientific works o Evaluation of scientific research in the area. 8. Preparation and presentation of research projects o Structuring and communicating research proposals.

Objectives
Objectives
The learning objectives (LO) defined for this curricular unit are: LO1. Acquire knowledge about the theoretical and practical foundations of scientific research, understanding its purposes and importance in the context of Physical Education and Sport; LO2. Understand the data collection and analysis methods used in scientific research, both qualitative and quantitative, in the field of Physical Education and Sport, applied to pedagogical practice; LO3. Develop skills for preparing a research project, applying the knowledge acquired about research methodologies to concrete problems of pedagogical practice in the field of Physical Education.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The strategy used in teaching this UC is based on theoretical exposition (TM1) and a practical component (TM2) with practical exercises. The problem based learning methodology will be included in the teaching methodology (TM3) in order to involve students in the practice of research in the context of teaching physical education.
