João Pedro Carvalho was born in 1993 in Almada, Portugal. He received the M.Sc. (Hons.) and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from FCT NOVA, Portugal, in 2017 and 2021, respectively. Since 2020, he has been an Integrated Member with the Center of Technology and Systems (CTS), UNINOVA, and COPELABS, Lusófona University. He won the highly competitive Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC institutional) FCT grant in 2021. He has published more than 40 papers in international journals and international conferences in the field of remote sensing, pattern recognition, machine learning, sensor networks, signal processing, with significant recognition and impact in the research community. He is currently Assistant Professor at Lusófona University, Lisbon. He has guest-edited three special issues entitled "Drone-Based Information Fusion to Improve Autonomous Navigation" (Drones), "UAV-Assisted IoT Solutions" (Drones), and "Territorial and Spatial-Based Simulation" (Frontiers in Computer Science), and serves as a reviewer in many prestigious scientific journals in his field. Since 2016, he has been working in the field of aerial robotics research and development. He received the Best Paper Award in a prestigious IEEE conference in 2018, the Distinguished Paper Award in 2021 by LASIGE at FCUL, and the Best Poster Presentation Award in 2023 by International Complex Systems and Their Applications conference.
