Resume

Maria Isabel da Silva Santos holds a PhD in Food Engineering from the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA), University of Lisbon (2016), whose project, DeToxVega, was awarded the 1st Food I&DT award for the most innovative food technology by the Association for Entrepreneurship and Business Development (INOVISA) and the National Innovation Agency (ANI) at the Iberian Food Fair and Horexpo Lisbon (2011). She holds a Master's Degree in Food Safety and Public Health, by the Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde Egas Moniz and a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, by the Faculdade de Farmácia from the University of Lisbon. Since 2006, Maria Isabel Santos is an Assistant Professor at the Veterinary Medicine Faculty of the Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies, with an interregnum between January 2018 and October 2020. She gives lectures in the curricular units of Microbiology I and II; Hygiene, Safety and Health I and II and Veterinary Public Health. Currently, Maria Isabel Santos is also a researcher at LEAF (Linking Landscape, Environment, Agriculture and Food) in ISA. Her main research interests are related to the study of antibacterial compounds from plants and foods with an impact on human and animal health. She has also been a reviewer for the Journal of Food Science and Technology since 2018. Maria Isabel Santos is a technical auditor at Instituto Português de Acreditação, in the area of Food Microbiology, Cosmetics and Pharmaceutical Products. This activity is conducted in several Portuguese and international Portuguese-speaking laboratories. She is also a member of the Relacre's Technical Commissions and a Consultant of the National Program for the External Evaluation of Quality in Food Microbiology. Maria Isabel Santos has started her technical activity at the Microbiology Laboratory of the Center for Food Safety and Nutrition of the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA) (1973) as a laboratory technician. After obtaining the Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, she became a Senior Technician and took the position of Head of the Laboratory (Jan 2009), Quality Manager (2002-2008) and Coordinator of the National Program for External Quality Assessment in Food Microbiology working in cooperation with the London Public Health Laboratory (2000-2008). She was responsible for numerous internships and was the first person in Portugal to research and identify Listeria monocytogenes in food, in the late 1980s, when this bacterium emerged as an important foodborne pathogen, having subsequently passed this methodology onto several national laboratories. Technical duties in the laboratory ceased due to retirement in December 2009. Maria Isabel Santos was a Professor at the Escola Superior de Tecnologias da Saúde de Lisboa (formerly Escola Técnica) in the Course of Laboratory Technicians and at the Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde Egas Moniz in the Master of Food Safety and Public Health. She also collaborated in several Master's and Bachelor's organized by several Universities and Institutes, namely, Escola Superior Agrária of the Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco, Escola Superior Agrária de Santarém, Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and Faculdade de Farmácia from the University of Lisbon. Maria Isabel Santos was a supervisor and co-supervisor of several Master's dissertations and participated in juries of Master's Degree dissertation evaluation as an arguing vowel or vowel. She was part of the organizing committee of several Seminars, Scientific Meetings as well as Training Actions. Furthermore, she participated in Scientific and Honor Commissions of several Seminars. Maria Isabel Santos has published 2 books, several scientific articles in international journals with referees and several scientific articles in national journals with and without referees. She also presented several oral and poster communications at scientific and technical meetings.
