Entrance Conditions
This study cycle accepts candidates who submit their application via the institutional entrance competition and have obtained a positive score in one of the following national entrance exams:
07- Physics and Chemistry
09- Geography
18- Portuguese
Candidates may also apply via the regimes of institution/programme transfer or via Special Application, in accordance with the legal regulations in force (holders of higher education degree, holders of a Technological Specialization Course, holders of Professional Higher Technician Course or Over 23 years of Age).
Candidates who meet the requirements defined in the International Student Statute can also apply.

Objectives
Security, one of the most important areas of study of the 21st century, is a relatively new field of knowledge at the Portuguese university. This is a multidisciplinary training in which converge, intertwine, combine and complement expertise in the natural sciences, engineering, technology, computer science, economics, management, health sciences, law, sociology, psychology, political science and international relations. The main objective of the program is to develop in students a critical reasoning, skills and capabilities that enable him to cope with major threats in the security area.
Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired
The structure of the course is designed for students to acquire skills to: collect, select and interpret relevant information on security, identify risks and threats that weigh on people and property, identify, evaluate and analyze vulnerabilities political, economic, social and legal likely to threaten security; elaboara and implement contingency plans that could contribute to the prevention, mitigation or resolution of insecurity in society; define, quantify and justify the need and means to address threats to security, to know the public and private institutions and the human and technical resources that can be mobilized to intervene in situations of security threats.
These basic skills must be complemented by the following general responsibilities discriminated.
Building capacity to assess situations and decision by the student in order to provide: ability to solve problems, build and defend itself, ability to collect, select and interpret relevant information, for basing the remedies sought and the opinions given, including the analysis of relevant scientific, social and ethical relevance. Development of communication skills, which can transmit information, ideas, problems and solutions to both the public constituted by specialists and by non-specialists.
Development of learning skills, which enable lifelong learning, with a high degree of autonomy.

Further Studies
The degree in Security Studies allows post graduated studies, namely masters.
Career
Because security is associated with all human activity, there are several sectors that offer a degree in Security Studies the opportunity to apply the skills acquired. They may specialize in multiple areas related to security and thus exert its activity in the different government departments and local government, as well as in business, particularly in areas related to private security. Indeed, security is, in actuality, one of the industries with greater potential. Considering also the many dangers, risks and threats to societies, not only grow the demand for specialist officers to safety. The acquisition of skills will also be crucial for individuals already in the active life, given that globalization and the proliferation of new information technologies and communication calling for a continuous updating of knowledge.
Comments
To develop an active policy aiming at its students¿ professional integration is one of the objectives of this study cycle.Thus, besides various cooperation protocols established to integrate our students in internships and on-the-job training in several public and private entities operating in this sector in Portugal, the present study cycle engages in momentary agreements with other institutions with a view to ensuring the effective integration of all its students or futur graduates.
