Presentation
Curricular unit intends to know main evolutions of human resources management, both in historical and conceptual aspects, specifically HRM main currents, from its foundations to nowadays. Also understand different paradigms according to which HRM practices were developed during the XX century and learn how to interpret the main structural transformations by which has passed the HR function.

Syllabus
Human resources function. Concept, objectives and evolution. Main theoretical currents with impact on human resources function: Taylorism School; Human Relations School; Systems theory; Socio-technical theory; Contingential approach; Human Capital theories; Knowledge theories. Introduction to human resources practices. Human resources function structures and processes. Human resources function as a service provider: internal marketing. Human resources function as a strategic partner. Human resources management politics. Relationship between company politics and human resources; Employment politics and human resources management politics. Human resources management politics and their impact on organizations work. Human resources function evolution perspectives: New roles, new competencies.
Objectives
- Knowledge of theoretical currents and HRM explanatory models; - Ability to understand human resources function in others organizational functions; - Adaptability to different organizational contexts.
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Classes will take place based on a theoretical and practical methodology, with theoretical exhibitions, practical examples, commented readings, texts discussions and research work done by students. Students prepare analysis works, in subgroups, about the main theoretical-conceptual schools that influenced HR function development throughout its history. There are two evaluation types: - Continuous evaluation and/or evaluation through an examination. - The continuous evaluation is composed by the student's performance evaluation during the semester, the nature and type of interventions performed, and also a work determined by the teacher (this evaluation corresponds to 50% of the final note, being complemented by two tests (50%).
