Provide the acquisition of knowledge on Labor Relations in Portugal, framed in its historical context, in order to evaluate its evolution and impact on Human Resources Management. Skills for development within Human Resource Management activities organizations, concerning the different aspects of employer-worker relations.

Syllabus
1. Introduction. The international dimension of Labour Relations (LR). The role of the ILO.
2. The European dimension of LR. European social policy. The European Social Dialogue.
3. Historical evolution in Portugal. The unions. Democracy and social concertation.
4. Main organizations representing employers and workers: business associations and employers associations; workers' committees and trade unions.
5. Collective bargaining: dynamics.
6.The main topics of the contemporary agenda: The 2030 Agenda. Portugal: The Green Paper on Industrial Relations 2016. Inclusive labour market; Labour market differentiation factors; Organization of working time; Digital work; Education and training; Employment and unemployment; Qualifications and competences; Productivity and remuneration.
7. Development Scenarios: Flexibility; Adaptability.
Objectives
Collective labour relations and industrial relations. Recent evolution of labour relations in Portugal. Corporatism. Rupture and transition: the union issue. Democracy and industrial relations. Social concertation - the main representative organizations. The social aspect of European integration. The International Labour Organization: Conventions and Recommendations.
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The methodology implies, for the students, the development of work on the syllabus, through the use of information available in multiple sources; the development of critical thinking on the subjects under study, namely in the context of classroom discussions. As a result, students will learn about the main features of Labour Relations in Portugal, as well as the processes and routines through which they develop.
