    The Master's Degree in Cognitive Science and Education, offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences, Education, and Administration and the School of Psychology and Life Sciences, is an interdisciplinary program that is structured around the interaction between knowledge derived from Cognitive Science and Education, with a focus on the cognitive mechanisms that support learning in educational contexts. The program aims to address the challenging current educational context, which demands new knowledge and competencies from teachers, researchers, managers, and policymakers to facilitate the evolution of the educational system and society. These competencies include the ability to engage in reflection, research, and action based on complex thinking and to transcend disciplinary barriers.
  • Admission Conditions

    Admission Conditions

    To be admitted to this study program, candidates must hold a bachelor's or master's degree, or its legal equivalent, preferably in the fields of Education Sciences, Teaching, Social Sciences, or Behavioral Sciences. Psychology candidates are required to have a master's degree in Psychology. This study program does not confer professional qualification in the fields of Psychology or Teaching. Selection criteria: Candidates with a grade from their previous degree: - Grade from the previous degree - 50% - Curriculum evaluation (Curriculum + Motivation Letter) - 50% Candidates without a grade from their previous degree: - Curriculum evaluation - 75% - Motivation Letter - 25%

  • Objectives

    Objectives

    The study cycle aims to promote an integrative understanding of the latest contributions from Cognitive Science and Education Sciences for a better understanding of learning in an educational context. Specifically, the following objectives are pursued: a) Knowledge of the cognitive mechanisms that underlie learning in an educational context; b) Understanding of the theoretical foundations of Education Sciences regarding the process of learning in a school context; c) Knowledge and understanding of the reciprocal relationship between brain/cognitive development and learning and school education; d) Understanding of the concept of scientific evidence in the relationship between neuroscience, cognitive science, and education; e) Analysis of the contributions of cognitive science to essential learning areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics, and their relationship with democratic schooling and the exercise of citizenship.
  • Observations

    Observations

    Presential classes in Blended-learning (a mixed system of presential classes, recurring to both presential and online classes). In the 1st year (the curricular year), the Course is divided into presential and online classes, with asynchronous support. The presential classes will be lectured after working hours, preferably on Saturdays and in some cases can occur in January and in July 2023.
