Intervention and Research Methods in Domestic Violence II

Presentation

We aim to understand the field of research and intervention of domestic violence within the scope of the issue of children and youth and provide knowledge and depth of social policies to support this issue. Understanding this problem increasingly requires a multidisciplinary intervention, based on the contributions of research and conceptualization, as well on the existing intervention paradigms within the scope of children and youth and their families.

Syllabus

Research in child and youth studies - the structuring issues
Data analysis in research - an introduction; Basics concepts of content analysis; Demonstration of procedures
Writing about childhood - problems and questions: Different types of texts and diverse ways to access the "voice" of children; Mixed methodologies
Specificities in research with children
Ethics in research with children
Methods and techniques in qualitative research with children: participatory research; ethnography with children; observational methods; interviews; focus group; visual methods.
Intervention / research: development of fieldwork

Objectives

Develop a critical professional conscience and an investigative and interventional capacity and competence in the activity with children;
Invent research methods and techniques in child studies, considering their suitabilityto the objectives and theoretical and epistemological guidelines;
Experience the application of methods and techniques for collecting and analyzing information with children and young people;
Reflect on models of intervention for a contextualized approach to the local level bearing in mind the meso and macro levels, in the context of globalization.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

The curricular unit will be developed with a discussion of the topics duly highlighted in the syllabus and with the support of bibliography and other teaching materials (usually PowerPoint presentations). Open dialogue, guided text search, contact with experiences and research projects (namely from university repositories, whenever necessary) will be promoted. The teaching methodology will be interactive with participation, through the expository / interrogative method and through panel discussions on program topics.
The evaluation of the curricular unit is based on the participation of the students and on the realization of an individual written work.
