Death of Professor João Cannas da Silva

Lusófona University offers heartfelt and profound condolences to the bereaved family.

It was with deep regret and consternation that the Rectory, the Administration and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Lusófona University learned of the death of Professor João Cannas da Silva, Professor and Veterinary Doctor, of the highest importance in National and World Buiatrics, friend of the heart of his colleagues, students, employees and collaborators of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Lusófona University.

Professor João Cannas da Silva was a Clinician of Excellence, International Consultant, President and Founder of the European College of Buiatrics, President of the Portuguese Association of Buiatrics and President of the Organizing Committee of the World Congress of Buiatrics in Lisbon, with a work unrivaled in its field. He left indelible marks in the training of countless veterinarians, in Portugal and abroad, and a vast legacy of scientific publications and clinical and technological innovations that greatly contributed to the development of Veterinary Medicine and animal production.

His ability to update and implement projects is unparalleled and an example for all of us.

In this moment of mourning and pain, we dedicate ourselves to his memory and send our deepest condolences to his family and friends in particular for his irreparable loss.

We leave information about the Funeral Ceremonies for those who wish to pay a last farewell and tribute. The wake will take place on the 29th of October, Saturday from 6 pm at the São João de Deus Church. The mass will be on October 30th, Sunday at 10:00 am at São João de Deus Church and the funeral will be after the cremation mass at Alto de São João.
