Resume

Academically, Américo Mateus, holds a PhD in Business Management from the University of Évora where he developed and validated, among peers, a Design methodology for innovation called IDEAS(R)EVOLUTION. He holds a master’s degree in marketing and a degree in Design. His the head of the research at TRIE-transdisciplinary research center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Ecosystems, and director of ISMAT's Master of Design for the Circular Economy in Portugal. He has published more than 50 scientific articles and coordinated the implementation of more than 55 real cases, applying and validating the IDEAS(R)EVOLUTION methodology in different sectors, from start-ups to SMEs, large companies as well as the social sector, territories, education and in projects focused on creating organizational creative culture. He also is a regular international visiting lecturer and applied research adviser in several countries and institutions, such as: Bilgi University, Turkey; Universidad Europea Madrid, Spain; Karel de Grote and Howest West Flanders, Belgium; TU Delft and Avans University, Netherlands; FH Vorarlberg, Austria; RMIT Melbourne, Australia; University of Europe Berlim, Germany; Walden University, USA; Laureate online Education, UK; Haaga-velia, Finland and UFSC, Brazil. Regarding European projects, he is Principal Investigator for the project Cocoon - Co-Creating Greener Futures: Developing and Transferring Innovative Bio-Design Modules for Education to Accelerate the Green Transition (Grant Project Nº101087204). He is also a senior researcher in the projects: The BiomaterialKIT – a practical and pedagogical experiment for a more sustainable consumption (EU-II -Twinning for a Green Future); and URBiNAT - Healthy corridors as drivers of social housing neighborhoods for the co-creation of social, environmental and marketable NBS (Grant grant agreement No 776783). He is an active academic and entrepreneur in the fields of Participatory Design, Nature-Based Solutions, Circular Economy, Design and Innovation, Marketing, Social Innovation and Creativity. He is a systems thinker, course creator, creative leader, model, process, and tool creator and, at his core, is a provocateur, disruptor, and agent of Change through the power of ideas. His passion is to challenge existing dogmas and paradigms, applying research methods conceived “through the eyes of the user/consumer”. He believes in "Science for the Market" and his work as a senior innovation facilitator and cross-pollination breeder is recognized by his co-workers, students, and peers. His quest to “do things differently and better” makes him an inspiring leader in the themes of Nature-Based Solutions, Circular Economy, and Design for innovation. His also a national and international guest speaker on Participatory Design, Creativity, and NBS.
