Classical Sociological Theories
Presentation
To make known the necessity of the emergence of the Social and Human Sciences, and in particular of Sociology, in time and space; To know and be able to interpret the approaches and problems dealt with in the main classical works; Introduce the students in sociological thinking - reasoning and reflection; To know the epistemological foundations of sociology (from the common sense to the sociological reasoning), through the analysis of the main theoretical contributions of the classics; T have effective capacity from the authors in bibliographical reference; To stimulate the capacity of this critical and analytical reflection, with the debate of ideas with all the students; Understand the relationship between the theory produced and, in each time and in each space, the empirical investigation in the field of Sociology.

Syllabus
Emergence of positivism and previous theoretical foundation, objectified in the scientific knowledge. Analysis of classics of Social Sciences and Sociology: The positive tradition initiated by A. Comte and E. Durkheim, in particulary, the precision of the rules of the sociological method as empirical procedures to the analysis of the social facts. The comprehensive tradition of Max Weber, focusing on social interaction, representation and power of actors in the determination of social action. Analysis of the social, political and economic context with approach in the classical works: i) Reorganizing the Society of A. Comte ii) Durkheim's Social Science and Action, iii) Democracy and Tocqueville, iv) Sociological Concepts Fundamentals and Sociology of Religions by Max Weber; v) The scientific socialism of Karl Marx.
The historical materialism of Karl Marx, social inequalities and class interests in the determination of social action.
Objectives
Students should acquire knowledge and skills on:
Epistemological foundations of Sociology;
Problems of the works of the main classical authors of the Social Sciences, with the centrality in Sociology;
Understanding complementarity / rupture - construction / deconstruction / reconstruction - between the various theoretical approaches;
Analyze and know how to reflect (think about thinking) with exteriority, in a critical and anlítica way;
To be able to articulate orally and in writing their ideas, to argue and to debate.
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The methodology of continuous assessment is used in which students' participation and attendance are required. Thus, it is intended to create the interest for the matter, being a positive dynamic or habit by the scientific discussion. Continuous assessment includes: the classification obtained in the oral presentation, this works must have an abstract - preparation for future syntheses; the presentation guide - evaluation of the systematization, logic and coherence capacity and interest in the presentation to motivate the debate - expositive form (40%); a final work that can be based on the contents of the presentation and, with particular interest, those acquired in learning - theoretical and analytical competence (50%); Attendance and debate will also be classified (10%) Students who do not enter the continuous evaluation process or who do not have passing grade in this evaluation enter the examination system.
