Resume

João Pedro Carvalho was born in Almada, Portugal, in 1993. He received his MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineer from FCT NOVA (Portugal) in 2017, finishing in the top 1% of the students graduating in that year, and his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineer in 2021. From 2020 until the current data he is a junior researcher at COPELABS and CTS - Lusófona University. He won the highly competitive Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC individual) FCT grant in 2021. He published over 40 papers in international journals and in international conferences in the field of remote sensing, pattern recognition, machine learning, sensor networks, signal processing, with significant recognition and impact in the research society. He was the IR of the internal project SATURN - SATellite-less solUtions for secuRe uav Navigation in smart city applications at COPELABS from 01/2022 to 12/2023, where he demonstrated high level of leadership skills and responsibility. He participated in 3 international research projects, 2 national research projects, and helped co-supervising 8 MSc students and is currently supervising 4 PhD students. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the Lusófona University, Lisbon, where he lectures several undergraduate courses and 2 graduate courses. He was also a member of organising committee of 3 international conferences. He Guest-edited three special issues entitled “Drone-Based Information Fusion to Improve Autonomous Navigation” (Drones), “UAV-Assisted IoT Solutions” (Drones), and “Territorial and Spatial-Based Simulation” (Frontiers in Computer Science), and serves as a Reviewer in many eminent scientific journals in his field. He has been working in the Aerial Robotics Research and Development field since 2016. He received Best Paper Award in a prestigious IEEE conference in 2018, Distinguished Paper Award in 2021 by LASIGE at FCUL and Best Poster Presentation Award in 2023 by International Complex Systems and Their Applications conference.
