Resume

For more than 20 years of consultancy and applied science activities, I have been addressing societal challenges concerning the environment, health & well-being of individuals, groups and communities. In the last decade, the role of new communication & information technologies (ICTs) and social media in promoting social systems resilience during crisis and extreme events, became one of my core concerns. In a context of action research within interdisciplinary teams, I identify diagnostic and intervention priorities, seek solutions, and build tools. Through my science communication, research and teaching activities, I permanently ground my work in the latest scientific developments, in areas such as: risk perception & risk and uncertainty communication; health communication & health literacy; sentiment analysis of social media; resilience & coping with climate change, extreme events and crisis situations; consumer behaviour; sustainable behaviour. Professional activities: - Member of the World Health Organization (WHO-Europe) Technical Advisory Group on Risk Communication, Community Engagement and Infodemic Management (RCCE-IM) - Past-President (2021-2023) and President-elect (2019-2021) of the Society for Risk Analysis – Europe (SRA-E) and Councillor of the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA; since 2022). - Member of the Portuguese Food Safety and Economic Authority (ASAE) Scientific Committee - "Risk communication" panel. - Former member of the Task Force for Behavioural Sciences to fight COVID-19, nominated by the Portuguese Government. - Founding member of the Portuguese Observatory for Emerging Risks (ONRE). - Associate professor at the Lusófona University, School of Psychology and Life Sciences and HEI-Lab: Digital Human-Environment Interaction Lab. Education: - PhD in Psychology, specialization in Social Psychology - University of Lisbon. - MSc in Psychological Research Methods - University of Plymouth, U.K. - Degree in Psychology, specialization in Social, Work and Organizational Psychology - University of Lisbon. Current research lines: 1) Emerging Risks Perception, Risk Communication and Crisis Communication - Natural and human caused risks (e.g. epidemics and disease outbreaks; climate change and extreme weather) and emerging technologies (e.g. AI; human enhancement technologies; cultured food). 2) Infodemic management and Information and Communication Technologies use during crisis and social emergencies. 3) Stress and coping, human adaptation and resilience associated to Systemic Risk and Polycrisis.
