Class Introduction to Computer Science

In this course unit the student can develop the essential skills necessary to explore and master a spreadsheet in typical Biology undergraduate exercises. On the other hand, at a later stage you will have as your core competencies important to the high level MATLAB / OCTAVE programming language for solving generic biology problems.

1.5. Absolute and Relative References: applications.

1.6. Data set manipulation: filters, custom sorting.

2. Introduction to the OCTAVE Program

2.1. Introduction to Octave

2.2. Basics: Variables and Arrays

2.3. Multidimensional Arrays; Sub Matrices

2.4. Special values; Output Representation

2.5. Hierarchy of operations; Intrinsic Functions

2.6. Introduction to Matlab Graphing

Develop teaching strategies using practical examples arising from real data for treatment and use of specific programs.
