    Curricular unit intends to know Human Resources Management main evolutions, both in its historical and conceptual aspects, namely HRM main currents, from its foundations to present days. Understand the different paradigms based on which HRM policies and practices were developed during the 20th century and beginning of the 21th century. It is intended that students know how to interpret main structural transformations that HR Function has gone through until today.

    1. Human resource management in the context of global evolution: workforce diversity; the impact of technological evolution; economic changes; future workforce projections.

    2. Human Resources Function role. Concept, goals and evolution. Perspectives for evolution in Human Resources Function: new roles, new skills. Ethics in human resource management.

    3. Main theoretical currents with impact on Human Resources Function: Taylorism; Human Relations School; Systems Theory; Socio-Technical Current; Contingency Approach; Human Capital Theories; Knowledge management.

    4. Human Resources Function as a strategic partner. Human Resource Management Policies. Internal Marketing. Introduction to Human Resource Management practices: Functions description and analysis; Recruitment / selection; Performance Management; Formation; Skills management; Rewards management; Careers; Occupational Health and Safety.

    Objectives

    - Know theoretical currents and HRM explanatory models;

    - Understand human resources function in the context of others organizational functions;

    - Know how to adapt HRM to different organizational contexts. 

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Classes will take place based on a theoretical-practical methodology, which is based on a brief presentation by teacher on the themes, followed by the consultation and analysis of students on the program's themes, using commented readings, simulation cases, practical cases, theoretical presentations, discussion of texts and research work done by students. Students prepare analysis sheets, in subgroups, on the main theoretical-conceptual schools that have influenced the developments of the HR Function throughout its brief history.

    Assessment can be continuous or through an exam. Continuous assessment results from student's performance evaluation during the semester, through a test (50% of the grade) and through preparation, presentation and discussion of individual and group works on topics indicated by teachers (50% of the final grade).
