  • Objectives

    Objectives

    The General Biochemistry aims to introduce students to the study of biochemical processes In this UC will be studied the structures of various biomolecules: proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids and the role of water in biochemistry. At the end of the course, students should master perfectly the bases that will allow the approach to metabolism and its changes that will be addressed in the following curricular units.

    Skills: knowledge and understanding of the structure and properties of the main classes of biomolecules (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids) and the understanding of water functions as a solvent and his interactions with biomolecules. Students should also have an understanding of basic methodologies such as preparation of reagent solutions, potentiometry and acid-base determinations, spectrophotometry and determination of solution concentrations, extraction and purification of biomolecules and chromatography.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Knowledge progression tests throughout the semester were carried out at home through the learning platform. Pedagogical games in the classroom capture students' attention and motivate learning.
