  • Presentation

    Presentation

This curricular unit belongs to the curricular plan of this 1st cycle degree. The goal of this curricular unit is to provide to the students the fundamental concepts related to the planning and management of water resources, regarding the watershed. In this context it be will introduce the basic concepts and discuss the hydrologic cycle, watershed characterization, as well as estimate the water balance. This curricular unit has objective provide knowledge of legislation and planning ongoing in Portugal and in Europe. It is also intended introduce knowledge concerning operational/practical aspects related with water resource management and planning.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

At the end of this course the student will acquire knowledge and skills in: i) Hydrology (within the processes and components the hydrological cycle), ii) assessment of water availability, iii) knowledge of current legislation on planning, management and quality of water resources, as well as iv) identification of several instruments for water resources planning and management. These acquired competences will enable the student to solve technical problems in the context of water resources management and planning.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

TEACHING METHODS: The teaching and learning methods will be based on work done in class, in study and research / consultation by the student. During the theoretical sessions, the teacher will make a presentation and discussion of the subjects referred in syllabus, with application of acquired knowledge to concrete situations. In practical sessions, students will be involved in the discussion / problem solving exercises or proposed experimental practical work as well as they will be asked to perform work outside the room. Sometimes, it will require to the student, individually or in group, the oral presentation of their
    work. Are scheduled study visits.
EVALUATION: Semester, by continuous evaluation (2 practical assignments (25% x 2) and one writing test (50%), in accordance with Regulation of Knowledge Assessment of ULP. Students not approved in continuous evaluation are admitted to final examination (100%).
