Launch Book presentation: Secularisation - Genealogies, Models and Debates
A work that reflects on the place of religion in modern societies is by a ULusófona lecturer
Presentation of the book Secularisation - Genealogies, Models and Debates, by Professor Jorge Botelho Moniz, published by Imprensa Nacional (2024) (ISBN: 978-972-27-3131-7).
This work seeks to debate the place of religion in modern societies. Through the lens of secularisation theories, it shows how this is a fruitful but unresolvable field of debate. It presents an epistemology of secularisation, updating the discussion around the binomial religion-modernity.
It looks at the genealogy of secularisation, its theoretical models and the new methodologies that allow for its contemporary understanding. Traditional and modern debates are explored, a new methodological proposal is put forward and a renewed vision of the phenomenon of the displacement and recomposition of religion in societies marked by cultural diversity is proposed.
"A decisive text on a major contemporary debate about the relationship between religion and the dynamics of modernity." (Prof Dr Alfredo Teixeira)
