This workshop focuses on assessing post traumatic play, choosing which intervention is most likely to help the child and which are likely to cause further traumatisation.
Participants will be able to learn and practice some of the techniques drawn from:
- Sensory Attachment Intervention
- Cognitive behvioural therapy

Dr Steve Farnfield is Senior Lecturer in Attachment Studies at the University of Roehampton, London, UK. Steve is a social worker and play therapist with over 40 years experience in the field. He is a licensed trainer for the CARE-Index, the Pre- school Assessment of Attachment and the Adult Attachment Interview. He has also validated the Child Attachment & Play Assessment (CAPA) that uses the narrative story stem procedure with children aged 3 to 11 years. Together with a group of PhD students he is currently researching the assessment and treatment of developmental trauma using narrative stems together with physiological measures (Heart rate variability, cortisol and alpha amylase). With Paul Holmes Steve is co-editor of the 3 volume Handbook of Attachment published by Routledge in 2014.
