    Presentation

    The UC's domain of intervention is aimed at the knowledge of methodologies for the treatment of both water for human consumption and wastewater, reviewing and developing the knowledge acquired in Hydraulics and Water Pollution, aiming at application in concrete situations. This UC is relevant because it transmits essential knowledge to solve situations of diagnosis, design, operation and management of WTP and WWTP.

    Water characterization.
    Water supply treatment (aeration, coagulation/flocculation, sedimentation and flotation, filtration, membrane separation, ion exchange, chemical oxidation, disinfection).
    WTP waste.
    Characterization of wastewater. polluting loads.
    Wastewater treatment operations and processes.
    Sludge drying.
    Rules, regulations and applicable legislationÁrea de preenchimento obrigatório.

    Provide knowledge on methods and techniques to be used in the treatment of supply water for various purposes and wastewater, taking into account the receiving environment.
    Provide capabilities to assess and consider decision-making in the scope of assessment, design, operation and maintenance of water supply and wastewater treatment units.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Expositive/interrogative method; development of assignments and challenges using bibliographic research and the internet; individual/group assignments, case studies are aimed at applying and amplifying acquired knowledge, reflection and discussion. Active learning methodologies, namely: Case Study Analysis; Brainstorming; Role Play, Mentimeter, Flipped Learning, Mind Maps, systemic thinking, emphasizing the 4 C's of Education (Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creativity).

    Continuous assessment based on students' attendance at a minimum of 2/3 of classes, worksheets and group work with written and oral presentations. The partial assignments developed throughout the semester will have a weight of 60% and the final assignment 40%. Written exam for students who do not pass the continuous assessment; minimum mark 10 (9.5).
