Fiona Eva Bakas


Fiona Eva Bakas completed her PhD Tourism and Gender in 2015 at the University of Otago, New Zealand. She received an MSc Ecotourism (distinction) in 2004 at University of Portsmouth (UK) School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and completed a BSc (Hons) in Plant Biotechnology and European Studies (German) in 1999 at the University of Nottingham, UK. She has over 20 years of varied work experience (in the tourism industry, academia, financial sector) and is now an assistant professor in tourism at Lusofona University, Lisbon and an adjunct lecturer in tourism at Dalarna University, Sweden. She has published 17 articles in journals on aspects of creative and cultural tourism, gender in tourism labour, qualitative methodologies, handicrafts, entrepreneurship, rural tourism, ecotourism, and feminist economics. She has co-authored 5 book chapters and authored 1 book chapter. She has presented orally at 18 conferences and produced one conference poster.Fiona has produced 1 online magazine article and 1 online resource article. She has organized 8 events and received 4 awards. She has worked as Post-doctoral Fellow in 1 project and Research Fellow in 1 project. Fiona works in the area of Social Sciences with emphasis on Economics, Business, Anthropology and Cultural Geography. In her professional activities, Fiona has interacted with 36 collaborator(s) in the co-authorship of scientific papers. She is bilingual in English and Greek, speaks Portuguese and German and has traveled widely for work, study and leisure.
