Carla Cristina Marques Galego

Resume

I am a sociologist holding a Master’s and a PhD in Education Sciences. My research is situated within the field of sociology of education, with a particular focus on education policies, institutional dynamics in higher education, and the academic profession. My work brings together perspectives from the sociology of education and comparative education, with a specific interest in research methodologies in education. I was awarded a doctoral fellowship by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) from 2007 to 2011. During this period, I carried out part of my doctoral studies at the Department of Social Sciences and Comparative Education at the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as at the Universitat de València. I am an integrated researcher at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development (CeiED), where I co-coordinate the research line ReLeCo – Public Policies, Governance and Education, coordinate CeiED Júnior, and serve on the organising committee of the Citizen Science Doctoral College – CeiED. I have participated in several national and international research projects, including ReMASE – Research Methodologies in Advanced Education Training (FCT) and A Success Story? Portugal and PISA (2000–2018). I also took part in the European project TO INN – From Tradition to Innovation in Teacher Training Institutions. I am currently a member of the project LINKING | Neuroscience and Education Perspectives on Language Ability and Critical Thinking: An Interdisciplinary Approach, funded by the Seed Funding ILIND Program. In recent years I have developed a particular interest in students’ early engagement with research. In this context, I coordinated the project “Escolas de Ciência” (Science Schools), funded by the Verão com Ciência programme of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, which aimed to promote students’ participation in research contexts and foster scientific skills at early stages of academic training. This project led to the creation of CeiED Júnior, an initiative that I currently coordinate, aimed at bringing students closer to scientific practice and to research culture. My scientific output includes publications in national and international books and peer-reviewed journals, focusing mainly on research methodologies in education, advanced training in education, and the comparative analysis of education policies. I am also involved in national and international scientific networks. I am a member of the Comparative Education Section of the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences and of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies. As an Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona, I teach in programmes in the field of education sciences and contribute to the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. I also hold academic leadership roles, serving as Director of the Bachelor’s degree in Education Sciences – Social Education and of the Master’s degree in Education Sciences. In addition, I participate in academic governance bodies, including the University Council, the Scientific Council and the Pedagogical Council of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Education and Administration. Within these roles, I seek to articulate research, teaching and academic engagement, promoting the integration of research into educational processes and contributing to bringing students and the scientific community closer to the production and circulation of knowledge that is relevant to education and to society.
