Resume

José António Fonseca de Oliveira Correia (José A.F.O. Correia), born 1984 in Peso da Régua, Portugal, is Researcher of INEGI and CONSTRUCT/FEUP of the University of Porto (Portugal). Since 2018, he is a Guest Teacher at the Engineering Structures Department of the Delft University of Technology (Netherlands). He was an Invited Professor at the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Coimbra (2016/09 - 2021/08). He was an Associate Professor (by invitation) at UTAD (2022/03-2023/02). Doctor José A.F.O. Correia received distinctions from the Wroclaw University of Science of Technology (Poland), University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (China) and Beihang University (China), Emerald Literati Awards 2019: Highly Commended Paper, FEUP Scientific Recognition Award 2019 and 2020, Young Engineers¿ Contribution Award ¿ IABSE 2020, Highly Cited Paper 2021, Top Downloaded paper 2018-2020 in FFEMS journal, Manson-Coffin IGF 2021 medal, as a result of the scientific work that he has been developing related to the area of structural integrity, fatigue and fracture. He obtained the degrees BSc (2007) and MSc (2009) in Civil Engineering by the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. He is a specialist in steel and composite construction by the University of Coimbra in 2010. He is a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering by the University of Porto in 2015. Since 2008, he has lectured several unit courses, such as: - Steel Structures; - Timber Structures; - Structural Engineering Design; - Applied Mechanics; - Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics; - Steel Structures for Offshore and Renewable Energies; - Design of Bridges; and, - Offshore Structures Design. He is co-author of more 190 scientific journal papers in the most relevant scientific journals devoted to integrity, fatigue and fracture of engineering materials and structures, 280 proceedings in international and national conferences, congresses and workshops, 12 book chapters, and 9 books. Since 2015, he was appointed as a member of the editorial board of 28 scientific journals such as: - International Journal of Fatigue (Elsevier); - Forces in Mechanics (Elsevier); - Marine Systems and Ocean Technology; - Journal of Infrastructure Preservation and Resilience; Materials Science; - Ships and Offshore Structures (Taylor & Francis); - Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction (ASCE); - Materials; - Journal of Marine Science and Engineering; - Forensic Engineering; - Advances in Mechanical Engineering; etc. He is also an Associate Editor of the 8 scientific journals: - Philosophical Transactions A - Engineering Sciences; - Material Design & Processing Communications; - Frontiers in Materials; - Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction; etc. Additionally, He is editor-in-chief of Book Series and journals: - Structural Integrity; - International Journal of Structural Integrity; - Smart Infrastructure and Construction; - Modelling; - Alexandria Engineering Journal; etc. Supervision of doctoral and master's dissertations in the areas of Civil and Mechanical Engineering: - 24 Ph.D. (4 completed; 6 will end in 2023; 8 ongoing; 6 starting the doctoral programme); - 41 MSc. (completed). He was/is also a team member of the organization and participation in approved national (Portugal) and European research projects (21 research projects). Dr. José A.F.O. Correia was recently appointed, in 2017 and 2020, as a co-chairman of the technical committees ESIS TC12 and ESIS TC3, respectively, of the European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS). He is a member of technical committees, CEN TC250 SC3 WG 1-9 Fatigue and CEN TC250 SC3 WG 1-10 Fracture, of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). His current research interests are the following: a) Fatigue and fracture of materials and structures; b) Probabilistic fatigue modelling of metallic materials; c) Structural Integrity of Additive Manufactured Components; d) Renewable Energies and Ocean Technologies.
