Ricardo Pinto

Resume

Ricardo Pinto is an Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona – Porto (Faculty of Psychology and Education) and a researcher at the HEI-Lab – Digital Human-Environment Interaction Lab. He holds a Ph.D. in Health Psychology from Universidade do Minho (2013), supported by a doctoral scholarship from the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) awarded in 2008. His doctoral research addressed the long-term psychological impact of adverse childhood experiences. His research agenda focuses on the psychological effects of traumatic and adverse experiences across the lifespan, with particular emphasis on mechanisms of risk and resilience and their implications for development and mental health. He also employs immersive virtual reality methods to simulate trauma-relevant or stress-provoking scenarios, enabling the study of cognitive and behavioural responses in controlled environments. This work aims to produce evidence-based knowledge that supports tailored interventions to reduce the long-term effects of trauma in vulnerable populations. He has been actively involved as a researcher in several funded national and international projects, contributing to interdisciplinary collaborations in trauma, development and digital health. He teaches at undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels in Psychology and supervises master’s and doctoral students. His scientific contributions appear in high-impact journals in the social and behavioural sciences, and he serves regularly as a peer reviewer for international academic journals.
