Class Instrumentation and Measurements

  • Presentation

    Presentation

    The scope of this curricular unit encompasses the study of materials, technologies and test equipment used in electrical and computer engineering. The fundamental concepts of Metrology, with their correspondent practical application, through a strong laboratorial component are also lectured. Therefore, the need for the use of Metrology arises naturally throughout the developed work. The pertinence of this unit is then clear: It constitutes a foundation, theoretical and practical, where all further curricular developments are set upon.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

    This unit's objective is to introduce the materials, technologies and test equipment used in Electrical Engineering. The fundamental concepts of Metrology, with their correspondent practical application, through a strong laboratorial component are also lectured. Hence, this unit constitutes a basis for all further curricular development. The fundamental skills to acquire are:

    1. Familiarization with the materials and components used in Electrical Engineering;

    2. Familiarization with the concepts of Metrology, and its application to data acquisition processes;

    3. Knowledge of the manufacturing processes of components, and their respective range, accuracy and tolerance;

    4. Familiarization with the typical test equipment of the field: multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes;

    5. Familiarization with the techniques and laboratory procedures in Electrical Engineering;

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Supply of a set of study material, in digital form, namely, slides and exercices. Use of simulation software.
