Resume

I am an Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona and a researcher in its School of Life Sciences, specializing in animal welfare, biodiversity conservation, and the study of human–animal relationships. I hold a PhD in Biology from the University of Lisbon (2014) and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Universidade Lusófona (2005). Since 2009, my work has combined scientific research with applied fieldwork, particularly in the management of feral cat colonies, in collaboration with national and international animal welfare organizations. My research explores the interface between human communities and animal populations, integrating population control strategies into biodiversity preservation and urban wildlife management. I also lecture in the Postgraduate Program in Animal Welfare at the University of Porto, where I teach modules for municipal veterinarians. As a trainer and consultant for Animais de Rua, a public-interest organization, I work with municipalities to design and implement sterilization programs for stray animals, and I represent the organization in the Eurogroup for Animals’ Cats & Dogs working group.
