The curricular unit is structured in order to introduce students to the scientific method and to prepare them for the planning and execution of a scientific project. On the other hand, the UC aims to introduce students to scientific writing, particularly in the context of master's dissertations to be prepared for completion of the 2nd cycle of studies in Veterinary Medicine.

Objectives
Objectives
Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
The Curricular Unit's general objective is to provide students knowledge and tools that allow them to carry out research projects, produce scientific documents and prepare project proposals, namely:
1 - Identify the fundamental aspects of the nature of Knowledge and the scientific method;
2 - Identify the problem of a research project;
3 - Formulate the hypothesis of a research project;
4 - Perform bibliographic research and prepare a review of the relevant literature in the context of the research objectives;
5 - Prepare a scientific document with an appropriate structure and wording;
6 - Elaborate a research project proposal;
7 - Understand the importance of meeting ethical standards in scientific research, as a guarantee of the integrity and confidence of scientific knowledge.
It is also an objective that students understand the importance of scientific research in Veterinary Medicine, in its most diverse areas.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The evaluation methodology follows the rules defined on the “Regulamento Específico de Avaliação de Conhecimentos” (REAC) of the FMV-ULHT.
Theoretical-practical Classes: Lectures with interactive discussion of the contents taught and carrying out collaborative work activities with the aim of stimulating students' critical thinking.
- Continuous evaluation: group elaboration of a poster on a scientific article / theme of choice (50%), group writing of a research project proposal (50%)
- Final exam in case of no approval by continuous evaluation
Seminars: invited researchers who develop research in the area of Medicine and Veterinary Sciences will present lectures on their scientific activity, allowing students to form knowledge about the different areas of research in Veterinary Science.
