Elisabete Silva

Resume

Elisabete Silva (ES) graduated in Biology, in 1999 from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, and obtained her PhD in Biomedicine, in 2011, from the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto. Her PhD thesis aimed to study the expression and regulation of Na,K-ATPase in aged renal cells. In 2011, she joined the Ageing & Stress group from Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology (IBMC) – University of Porto to proceed as postdoctoral researcher where she studied the role of age-dependent alterations in redox balance on female fertility. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at COFAC (Lusófona University) and integrates the Research Center for Biosciences & Health Technologies (CBIOS). Her research interests include oxidative stress, senescence, infertility, metabolism, and more recently, cardiovascular function and microcirculation. She is also interested in non-pharmacological strategies to prevent or mitigate cardiovascular and metabolic risk, including the role of metabolism and vascular health in ageing and reproductive outcomes. Between September 2020 and September 2023, ES was an invited Assistant Physiology Professor at ICBAS/UP. Elisabete Silva has an H index of 18 and a total of 1108 citations, according to the system of international reference Scopus. Her scientific career in the field of Physiology and Pharmacology is illustrated by the publication of 35 articles in indexed journals with an impact factor, 15 of which as first or last author, 4 reviews and 2 book chapters; for presenting her work in national and international congresses of reference in her research area; through the participation in 14 research projects, being principal investigator in a funded project already completed; for the supervision / co-supervision of 8 undergraduate, 7 master and 2 PhD students in the area of Physiology and Pharmacology – female reproductive system; for the participation in several academic juries; through the peer review of articles submitted to indexed journals with an impact factor; and for the distinction with several prizes. She has also contributed to health literacy promotion through the organization and participation in seminars aimed at health professionals and postgraduate students, as well as through science outreach activities. These include 8 editions of the Universidade Júnior, 1 activity in Ciência Viva no Laboratório, and several workshops and seminars focused on improving literacy in reproductive health, which she now expanded to cardiovascular and metabolic domains.
