Dr. Mohammadmahdi Abedi is a distinguished researcher with a comprehensive background in advanced composite materials, finite element analysis, and deep learning. With dual master’s degrees in civil and mechanical engineering, he has developed a robust expertise in multifunctional composites, numerical simulation, optimization, and the integration of machine learning in materials science and structural engineering. His research journey has been marked by a notable PhD thesis titled “An Innovative Cementitious Geocomposite for Smart Transportation Infrastructure Monitoring” completed at the University of Minho in June 2024 with publishing 32 papers. This work, part of the IN2TRACK2, IN2TRACK3, and FCT projects, introduced a multifunctional cementitious composite incorporating carbon nanomaterials for self-sensing, stress detection, and Joule heating for adjustable thermal control which is used in Coimbra-Porto railway substructure. Dr. Abedi has published 61 papers (51 journal and 10 international conference papers, 34 of them are named as first author 11 of them are corresponding authors, 2 of them were ESI highly cited papers and 85% of them are Q1 journal papers). He Collaborated with prominent researchers in the world like Prof. Yi Cui (Stanford University), Prof. Michael S. Strano (MIT), Prof. Paulo Lourenco (Minho University), and Prof. Baoguo Han (Dalian University of Technology). The work experience in world-leading research groups at ARISE, ISISE, TC2T, Fibrenamics, Minho and SQU universities has provided him with a broad international perspective, collaboration, and multicultural working skills. Dr. Abedi has been involved in multiple high-profile projects, including those funded by the European Commission and the Ministry of Energy, highlighting his contributions to both national and international research efforts. In addition to his research achievements, Dr. Abedi holds two patents. His contributions to the field have been recognized through several awards, including accolades for his involvement in digital infrastructure challenges and advancements in R&D units. His expertise is further demonstrated through his review activity for several prestigious journals, such as Cement & Concrete Composites and Composite Structures. He also serves as a Guest Editor for Advanced Materials Letters, underscoring his influence and leadership in the field. He is currently acting as an Invited Lecturer at Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon, contributing to teaching and supervision in parallel with his research. Overall, Mohammadmahdi Abedi’s career is characterized by a profound commitment to advancing knowledge in civil engineering and materials science, marked by his extensive publication record, impactful research projects, and significant contributions to both academic and applied aspects of the field.
