Class Pathology of Nutrition

    Presentation

Knowledge about disease mechanisms are crucial for training in human health, essential for structuring deductive thinking related to the analysis of the mechanisms of alteration of the normal physiological functions within  the individual as a whole. This mechanistic view stems from the identification of the signs and symptoms that characterize the different periods of the disease's evolution, using the differential means of diagnosis (laboratorial, functional, imagiological) available. This presupposes an in-depth knowledge of the integrated physiology on which this practice is developed.

Neurodegenerative diseases and aging. Psiquiatric and behavioral diseases.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

To learn about the general mechanisms of disease including the understanding of disease as a maladaptive response to internal and external changes. To understand the role of genetics and environment in disease. To learn about the physiological mechanisms related to the pathology of several organs and systems. To relate learnt concepts with biomedical engineering and its role in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, and in rehabilitation as well.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

the discipline uses multiple active teaching strategies in order to stimulate deductive reasoning; the use of the Anatomage virtual human body platforms is emphasized.
